    Beatriz Haddad Maia: Brazil's Rising Tennis Star

    Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia was born on May 30, 1996, in São Paulo. She comes from a true tennis family — her mother and grandmother were both successful tennis players in Brazil. Beatriz took up the sport at just five years old, and she is currently coached by Rafael Paciaroni.

    Beatriz Haddad Maia was already making a name for herself as a junior, reaching the doubles final at the French Open juniors twice. In 2011, Haddad Maia celebrated her first professional title on the ITF Women's Circuit. Six years later, she cracked the world's top 100 for the first time and qualified for the main draw of a Grand Slam at the 2017 French Open.

    After a few setbacks and a pandemic-related break from competition, Beatriz Haddad Maia fought her way back toward the top of the game. In 2022, she celebrated three WTA finals wins. In May, she won the WTA Challenger clay-court event in Saint-Malo, beating Anna Blinkova in straight sets in the final. Further success followed in June 2022 with two WTA 250 titles in Nottingham and Birmingham, where she came out on top on grass against Alison Riske and Zhang Shuai respectively.

    Standing 185 centimetres tall, this left-hander loves playing on clay and is also renowned as an outstanding doubles player. Partnering with a variety of players, Beatriz Haddad Maia has picked up numerous doubles finals wins on both the ITF and WTA circuits. At Grand Slam level, she has also reached the fourth round and quarterfinals several times in women's doubles and mixed doubles.
