Find the right Wilson tennis racket for your playing style

A racket can be the difference between frustrating mishits and the moment when every ball comes off the strings exactly the way you want. Wilson organises its range into seven lines, each clearly defined by playing style: Blade and Pro Staff for control and precision, Ultra and Burn for power, Shift for spin, Clash for flexibility and arm comfort, and RF as the premium all-round line. Three criteria are enough to decide: your playing level, your style (control or power), and how often you play.

Which Wilson line suits your type of game?

Blade and Pro Staff have accompanied the careers of Serena Williams and Roger Federer. Aryna Sabalenka, the current WTA world No.1, also plays with a Blade.

Line Player type Main benefit
Blade Advanced, club and tournament level Modern control, precise feel
Pro Staff Technically skilled and experienced Precise placement, a demanding frame
Clash Arm issues, high playing volume Highly flexible frame, arm comfort
Ultra Attacking, modern tennis Ball speed with no extra effort
Shift A game built around heavy topspin Frame engineered for maximum spin
Burn Attacking, smaller budget Stiffer frame, very responsive
RF All-round, good level Premium line, the Federer collection

Can't decide between two lines? Our racket advisor helps you out with just a few questions, and with our Wilson demo rackets you can try a model out on court before you commit.

The key buying criteria: head size, weight and grip size

  • Head size: Wilson models mostly range between 625 and 700 cm². Larger heads enlarge the sweet spot and forgive more mistakes, smaller ones allow for more precise, targeted play.
  • Weight: From around 300 g upward, a racket gains stability and power, but demands clean technique. The L and UL variants give you a line's technology without its full weight.
  • Grip size: Measure your hand precisely rather than relying on your glove size. Our grip size guide shows you the simple hand test that determines your size in seconds.

Playing with arm issues like tennis elbow? Then it's worth checking out our guide on beating tennis elbow – more flexible frames like the Clash line are considered especially gentle on the arm thanks to their high flex rating.

Which Wilson racket should I choose based on my playing level?

Beginners and recreational players are well served by a light, forgiving frame in the L or UL variant, for example from the Ultra line. From an advanced level upward, the Clash line offers the best compromise between comfort and performance. Tournament and competitive players go for control with the Blade and Pro Staff, or for power with the Ultra and Burn.

Which Wilson racket is the most arm-friendly?

The Clash line is considered especially comfortable thanks to its high flex rating and is often preferred by players with arm issues.

What's the difference between a Wilson Ultra and a Wilson Pro Staff?

The two lines serve opposite needs: the Ultra focuses on power and spin for modern, attacking tennis, while the Pro Staff targets precise placement for a controlled game – with a more technically demanding frame. Choose the Ultra if you want ball speed, the Pro Staff if you're focused on feel.
