The Prince brand as we know it today was founded back in 1970. Its founder, Bob McClure, actually had something completely different in mind before he started making tennis rackets. The first product Prince Manufacturing ever shipped was a ball machine. Six years later, Prince had established itself as a genuine tennis brand and began producing its first frames. These weren't just made from a different material – they were also much larger than conventional tennis rackets.
Prince's philosophy was simple: why should beginners in particular have to struggle constantly to make clean contact, or miss the ball altogether? There should be roughly enough room between your fingertips and the base of your palm to fit your index finger crosswise.
