    Ugo Humbert: The Frenchman with Great Fighting Spirit and a Top Backhand

    Frenchman Ugo Humbert has been a professional tennis player since 2016. In recent years he has celebrated some major successes on the Challenger Tour and the ATP Tour. Ugo was born on June 26, 1998, in Metz, and today lives in Luxembourg. He started playing tennis with his father at the age of five. His father Eric and mother Anne own a butcher's shop. He also has an older sister, Lea.

    French Open and Wimbledon as favorite tournaments

    Ugo Humbert left home at just twelve years old to train in Paris. Former coach Cedric Raynaud had a very important influence on Ugo's game and personality. Although he prefers playing on hard courts, Frenchman Ugo Humbert names the French Open in Paris, alongside Wimbledon, as his favorite tournament.

    His big idol growing up was Roger Federer. Besides tennis, he also enthusiastically plays football and is a fan of the French club FC Metz. Ugo Humbert is also musically talented and plays, among other instruments, piano and guitar.

    Humbert is a combative attacking player with a great volley

    Ugo Humbert is considered a versatile player who copes excellently on all surfaces. He's an attacking player who also likes to come to the net to close out the point with a volley. What stands out on the tennis court is his tremendous fighting spirit, which often wins the hearts of the crowd. Humbert is a classic left-hander who cleverly opens up the court with his spin serve. He can also put opponents in trouble with his two-handed backhand, his strongest shot.

    The first major successes in Ugo Humbert's tennis career

    In 2017, the Frenchman won his first title on the ITF Futures Tour and reached the quarterfinal on his debut on the ATP Challenger Tour in Brest. In 2018, he won his first Challenger Tour title in Segovia against Adrián Menéndez and that same year reached the main draw of a Grand Slam singles tournament for the first time at the US Open. His second Challenger Tour title win came in Ortisei in Val Gardena, after which he entered the world top 100 for the first time in his tennis career.

    Since then, Ugo Humbert has been a regular fixture on the ATP Tour and reached the semifinal at the ATP 250 tournaments in Marseille, Newport and Antwerp. A milestone in his career as a tennis pro was reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon 2019, where, after wins over Gael Monfils and Felix Auger-Aliassime, he faced Novak Djokovic, against whom he lost in three sets.

    Ugo Humbert claimed his first ATP Tour title at the start of 2020 at the ATP 250 tournament in Auckland. Along the way he beat several top players in straight sets, including Denis Shapovalov and John Isner, and also won the final against Benoit Paire 7-6, 3-6, 7-6. He also won the ATP tournament in Antwerp, beating Alex de Minaur in the final.
